About Joseph Parker
The ‘boy wonder’ had many talking about him as the ‘real deal’ following his destruction of one-time contender Francois Botha in June. The South African was no match for the new found power in Joseph Parker which had been unleashed and primed by his new trainer Kevin Barry. That Parker has reached those heights quickly is no surprise. After a stellar amateur career - which included a gold medal at the 2011 Arafura Games in Darwin, a gold at the China Open and a silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Championships - the 21 year old phenom signed a long term deal with Duco Events and his controlled by an all-star cast of advisors led by the Las Vegas based Barry. Not one for hype – even though he is surrounded by it – Parker prefers to do his talking with his fists. That’s something the first seven opponents of his pro career (Dean Garmonsway, Terry Tuteru, Richard Tutaki, Dontay Pati, Brice Ritani-Coe, Francois Botha and Afa Tatupu) can all attest too. Indeed the power on show against Tatupu crowning Joseph the New Zealand National Boxing Federation Heavyweight Champion has many whispering that he’s NZ’s best potential shot at glory since David Tua’s pro debut in 1992.
